For anyone who hasn't seen it yet or heard about this alternative channels, Polygon has an enticing article on the new six-issue anthology miniseries that will be starting this spring.

The miniseries will feature work from a variety of writers and artists, and will include stories about the moon landing, 19th century Paris, 13th century Japan, the U.S. Old West, and post-WWI Berlin.

“The world of The Old Guard, especially when viewed through the specific lens of this kind of anthology, gives us all the chance to tell stories about these more-than-human characters throughout the totality of human history,” says writer Matt Fraction. “If what’s past is prologue, any story about where we’ve come from is ultimately a story about where we’re going. And I think these characters, in the specific, radiate out from a core of humanism: if dying doesn’t matter, then all that matters is how we live.”

The article includes several of the covers and some art excerpts that have me very excited!

If it's all right to play catch-up here, these are two Joe/Nicky fics I wrote a little while back. Both pre-date the movie, but I don't think either contradicts it.

I've made some notes about the differences between the movie and volume 1 of the comic!

Notes under the cut. These were things I noticed while reading; comment with things I've missed. Small differences that were equivalent -- e.g., the room in Sudan has a videocamera on a table, rather than surveillance cameras on the walls -- I didn't note.

Movie and Comic comparison details by issue ).
.
Also, I grabbed a few fun screencaps while I was reading the comic: if any icon makers want to perform their magic on them, DM me and I'll get a ZIP file to you via GoogleDocs, Discord, or email.

So I own the comics already but haven't gotten around to reading them yet, and now the movie is available, so this might be the right place to ask: which first? Do I read the comics and then watch the movie, or the other way around? Opinions are appreciated. :D

Not sure if it's allowed to post this, but I wanted to mention that currently on Comixology, the digital version of the first issue of The Old Guard is free, and the first volume is on sale for 5.99 USD (regularly 12.99).

(I am not affiliated with comixology in any way; I just like seeing how adaptations follow (or don't follow) the source material.
