Pursuant to the language beta post, I was thinking it would be good for us to have a hub where people can ask for history/culture resources for fic-writing. Need to pick someone's brain about Scythian society? Gender/sexuality norms in medieval Jerusalem? Backgrounder on English witch trials which were absolutely not happening in 1750, what the hell Netflix? Ask here!

Personally, I can provide resources on sexuality in medieval Catholicism and witch trials, so feel free to hit me up for that!

If anyone's writing about the north American continent before 1865, I got your back.

Is this the place to ask history questions?
I wanted to check what Nicky might have been wearing back when he became immortal. I haven't read all the comics yet to see if that detail's there. I saw in the character info post in this comm that he was a priest, but most of the fanart I've seen has him in chainmail and a Templar surcoat (white with the red Maltese cross). I'm planning some fanart and want to get his dress right and I don't think he could have been in a Templar outfit as the Knights Templar weren't set up until well after the first crusade (until about 20 years after his first death in 1099). Also, if he was still a priest then, would he have fought like a knight, in armor? Any help appreciated.

I am sure that there are people already in this community more qualified than I am, BUT I did do my B.A. in Classical Studies, albeit more than a decade ago. :P I am happy to help with usage/grammar of ancient Greek (really just Attic/Ionic) and Latin to some extent, and a smattering of Greek and Roman literature and culture.

(I super-duper hope that my thesis advisor, who worked on Scythian mummies and got at least one tattoo that she found on one, is out there rambling to her students about whatever Netflix got right or wrong about Andy...)
